So I was reading through last year's fics to get an idea of how to write this year's one, and found this:
Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down by
misachan.
"When the Hellmouths open and the demons rule, Faith finds herself fighting the good fight alone. She's not sure how long she can keep this up."
It's fantastic. And beautiful. And heartbreaking. Faith is spot-on in charactersiation, and as everything becomes clear, the horror really sets in. The use of Lindsay is bloody brilliant, and although I prefer Faith/Wes, Faith/Xander will do me in a pinch. And this Xander is both still 'Xander' in all his dorky glory, and yet harder and tougher and so very more grown-up. And it's bitter and brutal and everything an apocalyptic fic should be.
It's so good, it's the reason I'm not writing in the Buffyverse for this year's
apocalyptothon. I can't get the images out of my mind; Faith wearing down but still fighting the good fight, Lindsay and his bargaining attempt, Xander and the way he holds up. A really good read.
