* actually lots of conditions, and never going against the higher-ups is a big one; but they don't tell you that during the recruitment phase. And by the time you figure it out on your own, the cult IS your entire life and support network, and they can hold that over you to make you behave, and the only way out is to cut them off first... which, of course, few who came seeking that are inclined/able to do.
