I was wondering if there was a steampunk AU for SGA that focused on Teyla. Unlikely, granted, but still...we live in hope...

i know there have been steampunk au's for SGA. Or at least I remember seeing one or two of them. Maybe in this past year's SGA santa? Regardless, I think the ones I've seen have focused on McShep.

Yeah, I'm not interested in the McShep focused ones. If it's not about Teyla (and maybe Ronon) then I'm not particularly interested.

I guess my perspective is rapidly becoming: I can find fic about the epic love of two white men in any fandom; but a story that's focused on the female characters and their choices, decisions, and how they change the world around them? Very rare and, when well-written, worth reading in any fandom.

*nods* Totally get what you mean. Granted, I feel more comfortable writing male characters in certain fandoms than not -- Ianto Jones from TW, John Sheppard from SGA, and Daniel Jackson from SG-1 for example, but I can't imagine not writing their interactions with their female colleagues/friends/lovers as well. I love writing Ianto and Tosh, for example, either as a romantic pairing or as friends because they are my two favorite characters. Hell, I think half the time the only reason I write Jack/Ianto is because it's canon, since half the time I don't like Jack. And I recently came up with an idea that may actually get me to like writing Gwen from TW, since I can't stand her character.

On the other hand, there are fandoms where I feel more comfortable writing the female characters, with BSG being a prime example. But always, I want to read and write about relationships between people and the choices they make. Which is probably why more than half my fics are like that.

HP fandom has a femmefest these last two years, which focuses on femme slash fics. I really, really liked the fic written for me this year: Seven. It's an au with Tonks, Hermione, & Fleur (as well as Harry and others, but it's told from the POV of Tonks and Hermione) in a unit in the Iraq War.

I think most writers do. I'm comfortable with the male characters, they just don't tend to drive me. ie. cool male characters are not sufficient to get me into a fandom. I need a female character that I like in order to get in there or I'm de nada.

In that, I'm pretty opposite to much of fandom.

By the way, do you know if there's an active Teyla lims? I was considering starting one on DW, if there's enough of an interest. (Is the SGA fandom fairly large on DW?)

SGA fandom is...moderately sized on DW. Not huge, though. And the Teyla-loving portion of it (or those who will out themselves as Teyla fans) is always a teeny tiny subsection of those.
