Arrived in Sydney late, thx to weather and late departure. Raining. A breakdown on the Eastern Distributor, heading north.
At work: 10:45am.
90 minutes later: My head feels like it's floating a little. Or possibly a lot. My body doesn't seem to be entirely certain which way is up; it's what I imagine being in variable gravity feels like...
RDA convention was hella fun; except for the Duct Tape Ball which featured a lot of Britpop and almost zero classics (ie. ABBA, the Village People, Gloria Gaynor, Wham!, Grease Megamix, and other such classics.) Result? A lot of bored 'oldies' - read: people over thirty.
The seating seemed a bit odd, too. I got my ticket early - as in a few minutes past the time they came on for sale. And yet I was seated all the way off to the left of the stage in A-block, with a very bad view of the stage, while C-block, who probably bought their tickets in the middle of the group, had seats right in front of the stage. When I buy tickets early, I expect to get *good* seats, not just seats up the front. These seats were *not* good ones. And yes, I put this down in the feedback form; what was the point of complaining during the con? The con staff were busy enough at the time, and whatever decision had been made had clearly been made long before I got to the sessions and realised I'd been shunted all the way off to the side.
Otherwise, it was an enjoyable con. I got my photo and auto, which doesn't bother me; I went to the cocktail party and was recognised by both Dan Shea and RDA from the Sydney convention, which was pretty cool; and I got to spend my birthday in another city on another continent with friends of many years' standing, which was absolutely awesome.
All things considered: it was an excellent birthday, and an excellent holiday.
Now, back to the grindstone...
Apparently the hockey team lost on the weekend - our first and last lost, and to the team that we drew before. I think we might have been borrowing players off other teams, though, which might help account for it. And one of our best players - an inner/half player - was out with a hamstring injury two weeks ago, so she might not be able to play. I hope she can.
We'll see how we get through the evening: hockey training from 7pm, then a work meeting from 9pm to 10pm. I really need to get some sleep.
Nearly the end of the day. Nearly.
