What I really want to read are stories written to genderswapped heroic narrative tropes. Stories where the girl has the crisis, gets involved in all the action, solves all the problems facing her, and gets the guy into the bargain!

But they're such a rare breed of story.

I said this in a post back in September last year. But it bears reminding, I think, especially in my shift towards Sanctuary and my 'adoption' of another girl who is canonically capable of filling in the hero's role in such a narrative...

And, honestly, either Will or Henry would fit quite nicely into the role of the damsel.

Also, I bought 5 seasons of TV shows for $110. Not as good as 10 seasons of SG1 for $80, but good enough! (Big Bang Theory S1&S2, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles S2, Being Human S1, and NCIS S4.)

Have you watched Spooks? (Called MI-5 in the U.S.) If you like gritty spy dramas, you might enjoy it, and it has the MOST AWESOME female character during several seasons: Ros Myers. This article does a good job outlining why so awesome, and here's an awesome little fanvid with some clips of her awesomeness. I think she comes onto the show at the beginning of series 5.

Of course, if you've watched Spooks and hate Ros, well, just pretend I didn't say anything. :) Either way, she's certainly no damsel in distress....

She was, and then she was made section chief. And yeah, it could get depressing, but it hits my competence kink so hard, I just can't stop watching. Especially after Ros joins. She is such a terrific character, and the actress does an amazing job with her, I just can't take my eyes off her when she's on the screen.

If you're looking for any fic recs, you'd probably like Always A Next Time by nessismore (Kate, Helen, Will, Nikola, gen, written for Girl-Saves-Boy) + Rescue Me by nessismore (Kate, Kate/Will, five times she rescues him and one time he rescues her) (the author's other Sanctuary fic is great as well, and she's written quite a few Kate-centric ficlets).

I thought Will and Henry were actually the damsels in Sanctuary, as a matter of fact. Kate and Helen seem to be far better suited to the heroic role.

Not at all; they're definitely the damsels, and Kate and Helen the heroes. It's really refreshing. :)
