Slightly random question, with possibly icky reminiscence.

How big are your cockroaches? What's the biggest one of those babies you've ever seen?

I just squished one in the shower and from the look of him, he clocks in at at least 3.5cm, heading for 4cm (about an inch and a half). Average sized as my experience with them goes.

Not sure what he was doing behind the shower curtain. Then again, I was having a wash, so...voyeur cockroaches? Ugh. Now that's the stuff of nightmares...

That sounds like a sewer roach. Here in the MidWest, I seldom see a roach bigger than half an inch. In AZ, we got them both small and the size you're talking about.

Once they get that big, they're called waterbugs, or at least that's what my exterminator told me when I asked him about it. Either way, they're annoying as hell. (and as for biggest... probably one that was at least 2 inches. Thankfully, not in my home.)

*shrugs* I think they're in the same family as a cockroach. I call them a roach, but two different exterminators have told me they're waterbugs when they get that big. It could be a US thing.
