So, I've started putting together the kaleidoscope quilt with the Patty Young Sanctuary range.

I love the fabrics and the colours and the contrasts. I don't like the way I'm putting the quilt together.

The kaleidoscope quilt is a busy design to start with: because it's made up of so many triangles, there's a lot of movement and motion. To calm it down, it seems that most people use either solid fabric prints (like here, or else fill it out with neutral solids (like here).

I was hoping to do more of the first than the second, but didn't anticipate how busy the Sanctuary fabrics are. Result? One very frenetic layout. Which I don't really like at this moment. It doesn't work for me and the design (or lack thereof) is really beginning to grate.

It's not the first time I've started something and gotten halfway through to discover I don't like the pattern. But it usually turns out okay. This time? I'm not so sure it will. It's just too active a pattern.

There were pictures, but the camera seems to be sucking battery life like nobody's business. I've had to change the batteries three times this year already. I think it's getting old.

So, I have choices: pull it all apart and start again (not my preferred option), or else salvage what I can from the (far too active) design.
