We leave for Europe on Friday, staying in Paris for a week, then travelling from Paris to Amsterdam, and then cruising down the river, all the way to Budapest, before travelling up to Prague for three days in Prague.
Should be awesome.
I'm hoping to meet up with willing and interested people in Europe if anyone would like to see if we can get our schedules match. Mine's rather rigid, though, I'm afraid!
This may get confusing: we'll be cruising at night, and stopping in towns and cities by day, so I can tell you where I'm likely to be and around when, but reality may decide to buck the plan.
Paris: from 7th May, to 15th May,
Amsterdam: from 15th May, to 16th May,
Cologne: 17th May, AM
Koblentz: 17th May, PM
Rudesheim: 18th May PM
Miltenbern: 19th May, AM
Wertheim: 19th May, PM
Wurtzburg: 20th May
Bamburg: 21st May, PM
Nuremburg: 22nd May
Weltenburg: 23rd May AM
Regensburg: 23rd May PM
Passau: 24th May AM
Linz: 24th May PM
Melk/Durmstein: 25th May
Vienna: 25th May to 26th May
Bratislava: 27th May,
Budapest: 28th May
Prague: 29th May - 1st June
We get back to Australia on the 4th June, and it's going to be utterly horrible in terms of jet lag, 'cos we're going entirely the wrong way around the globe. I'd have added a quick trip to the USA on (thereby sending me the right way around the globe) but I didn't have the leave time from work.
If you happen to live in or neary any of those places (or can get to any of those places on the specified day) and would like to meet up, drop me a PM or leave a comment!
I'd like to at least try to meet up (and either drag you along the tour, or ditch the tour for a while).
Once we get to Paris, I'll be purchasing a European phone card through which you can contact me, and will hopefully be able to find internet cafes to check my email!

Have a fabulous time!

I was in Europe last in November 2007, and it was a great trip - just a little rushed: a 10 day tour last time. This one takes a little longer - closer to 25 days, so we move slower and get to see more!
Where would you go in Europe? And when?

Your river cruise sounds awesome! I know Regensburg to Vienna to Prague is the Danube, but what's the river before that?
OTOH, maybe I could go earlier than July-Aug. My August 2008 trip was 3 1/2 weeks. It was awesome, but very hot and things were closed. And I realise now I could have jammed more cities in. Vienna didn't need three days--I should have just gone to Prague for a day.

And, hey, I know only too well the feeling of 'unrealisting travel expectations'! I wanted to get to the US for the end of August, start of September this year, for a cruise and to get to D*C in Atlanta.
Alas, I have the money, but I can't get enough time off work - I'm about four days short of accrued leave, dammit! So no go this year. But I think the US will be back on my schedule next year if I can possibly swing it!

The Rhein? The Seine? I get those two confused. I think it's the Rhein, though. The Seine goes through Paris or France, I believe...
Was August 2008 the 'heatwave of doom' year for Europe? That would have been a killer of a time to travel there!
