Finished Quilt!

This one is mine - all mine!


It's taken much longer than I ever anticipated - mostly because I saw binding as a chore - and a boring one at that. However, it's amazing how much faster it goes when you've got people to talk to in a cafe while sewing. You can hold a conversation and sew at the same time!

I took it outside into the sun to do some photography: I don't think that the camera much likes direct sunlight on fabric, though.



Still, it looks very nice and I'm very happy with it. :)

I joined a gift exchange just this last month - a 'Crooked Craft Swap'. The idea is that instead of doing 'normal' crafts, we do a 'dark' take on it. So instead of making a pretty porcelain doll, make a zombie/voodoo doll.

My plan is simply to do an ordinary patchwork quilt in blacks and reds and bone. :)

I picked a 'Summer Sampler Quilt-Along' for my base:


Very much not what you'd expect to see in dark colours! But here they are:




I've done 7 blocks and there's 5 left to go. I could probably get them done this week. The next one looks easy enough, although the one after it looks a bit finicky!

And yes, the finished Gothic Summer Sampler will be interesting! Definitely an exercise in colouring...

It's been interesting putting them together - a lot of basic quilting techniques that I never really had the drive to learn before this.

But now I know how they work, and I can give them another go another time!

Ooooh, pretty! I can see why you want to keep that one!

I agree that the camera doesn't like fabric outdoors that much, but I'm glad you posted that one because it really shows the border of the quilt and makes it pop in a way the indoor shot cannot.
