So, this is the state of my life: sunburned, stymied, snowed under.
I finished NaNo - with two hours to go. It was the closest NaNo I'd ever done. And the least coherent. But I did it.
I'm not sure that I'll be doing NaNo again in future; I'm kind of beyond writing for the sake of writing. Now I want my writing to mean something.
Last weekend, I went to see a friend who moved out west to be with her then-boyfriend (now-fiance). 500km and a six hour drive to get there, halfway across NSW into the Parkes/Forbes region. She's living on the 90-acre farm, in a 90 year old house, with 280+ sheep, 2 dogs, and 6 cats. The weather was utterly gorgeous - 26-30C the whole weekend. And I got severely and extremely suburned across my back.
OOOOOWWWWWWW...
The 6 cats was somewhat accidental - it was only supposed to be one cat, and then she got pregnant.
So they have five kittens they're looking to hand off to people. We have a space for two cats...
The sister is almost sold on it. We're housesitting two cats for the next six weeks, and my friend wouldn't want to let the kittens go until they're at least three months, which is in...about another six weeks. Perfect timing!
Summer hockey finished last night. We lost every game, except for the one where we agreed to draw because of inclement weather, and the one which we gained points simply because they forfeited.
Not entirely surprising to lose all the time when you're pitting Grade A/B players against Grade D players with a couple of Grade C players thrown in. And at least two people who'd never played before. It was fun...but yeah, it'd be nice to have won (or, at least, drawn) one on the field.
Christmas time is coming and I'm making gifts like a crazy gift-making thing. And parties! I haven't had a social life in Sydney for years. Actually, I'm not sure I ever had a social life in Sydney. First I was too young, then all my friends were in Wollongong, and then I never made friends I really clicked with...
Anyway, I have a Christmas party this weekend, one next weekend (which I'm hosting), one on Christmas Eve, and then I'm holding a NYE party. To which I have to start inviting more people...
I'm also involved in far too many fannish writing projects for someone who really hasn't been feeling the fannish tug. I'm glad I didn't sign up for the Sanctuary Santa; while I would have liked receiving, I'm not sure I could actually put together something that someone else would want to receive, you know?
My
sga_santa has stalled at about 3K and I'm rethinking it.
Have the plot of the
sheppard_hc done, but it's not yet started.
Don't talk to me about
yuletide. Not. Even. Canon is easy, have an idea, but it's the writing that's going to be the hard part.
And then there's the
sga_beya Secret Elf thing which I'm late for. Again.
*sigh*
I have at least two EPIC FANFICS OF EPICNESS on the burner, and also two original stories that have been niggling at me for the last year and which I want to 'just sit down and write'. Inasmuch as I actually can 'just sit down and write' anymore.
Jobs are as scarce on the ground as...well, sunny days this week in Sydney. Summer is missing, presumed, er, gone. I've been sleeping under two fluffy doonas for the last three days! This is the state of our weather. And there's no point in applying for anything until at least January.
Passport? Still hasn't turned up. Or maybe it did in the mail and I just haven't received the notification yet...
I really should update at least once a week: then I wouldn't find myself doing these updates like this.

I've been told every folk cure under the sun, but I find that the only one with any efficacy is cold water and time.
You are apparently having the summer that isn't, and we're starting off the winter of Great Warmness. At this season we should have plenty of snow on the ground, and instead we have rain and fogs of the kind we'd expect in late September. Since I don't live in the half of the world that celebrates Christmas as the kick-off party for summer (I can remember with amusement a South African family friend's vivid discription of how unappetizing the heavy, rich traditional food of a British Christmas was in the heat of a South African summer's day, especially as her family insisted on having the meal in the mid-day heat), I find it hard to get in the mood for Christmas. The weather keeps saying it's winding up for Halloween!
Oooh, kittens! Teeny weeny paws, with teeny weeny claws, and tails that stick straight up! Little puff balls of curiosity! Fierce and mighty destroyers of furniture! Please keep us updated.
