How to do footnoes in AO3:

<a name="foot1t" id="foot1t"></a><a href="#foot1"><small>¹</small></a>

in the text you want to footnote, and then at the bottom

<a name="foot1" id="foot1"></a><a href="#foot1t"><small>¹</small></a>

changing the 1s to whatever number footnote you're up to.
