This is the metaphorical storm post, not the meteorological storm post.

I've been LJ quiet because things have been pretty quiet, but the truth is that things are about to get a lot more busy.

Not only is hockey and bible study starting up for the year in the next couple of weeks, but so are renovations to the house, and the kittens are arriving tomorrow.

Add to that a friend who has started spouting ideas in a "there is only one correct viewpoint and it is mine" manner, and no sign of a job on the horizon, and I think my life is going to become rather 'interesting', shall we say?

So, the kitties first, because everyone loves kitties.

We're getting two of the mittens - I'm getting two of them, over the sistren's protests that they only want one and B1's concerns that they'll attach to me, because I'm home the most right now and cats tend to sleep on my bed a lot.

We're getting the brown tabby with ginger splotches and the grey tabby next to it:

They're sisters, they're toilet trained, I don't know how big they are, but it's going to be a scary couple of months when they first move in because B2 does not look where she's stepping, and while my cat, the stepbrother's cats, and the visiting gentlemen were big enough (and smart enough) to realise that the trembling of the floor meant to get the hell out of the way of B2 in full stride, but I'm not sure these two are.

And yes, it will be an extra expense: they have to be given shots, chipped, and desexed, as well as fed and watered and littered.

On the other hand, it will be so nice to have cats again. MY CATS! MINE!

Hockey rego begins this week and I'm really hoping to stay in Team 2, which is where I was last year. Except that we may be mixing up Teams 2 and 3 this year to give Team 3 a bit of a better chance (they haven't won a game yet). And Team 1 is going up into the 1st Grade competition, which is going to be...interesting.

They're too good for 2nd Grade, but probably not quite good enough for 1st Grade. It's a conundrum - and they won every game last year (except one) so they really have to go up a grade. Or else be mixed in with the 3rd grade team, some players going down, some coming up.

Oh, and yesterday I bought $1.5K worth of goalie gear (for the club). Our goalies will be well-equipped this year!

I'm switching bible studies this year - a different group with different leaders. Not because I don't like the ones I've been with for the last three years, but I'd like to try some new leadership - get new perspectives and see new leadership styles. It'll be a bit nerve-racking, because I'm pretty comfy with my old bible study, but I think it'll be good.

And finally the friend with the Views.

It's not the Views I have a problem with - although I think his interpretation of Biblical passages is problematic - it's the "you don't agree with me, you must be an idiot" manner that the discussions take. It's either wrong or it's right, and I'm wrong and he's right.

There's no space for conversation or dissemination of ideas. There's no open mindedness to an alternative POV or the idea that he might be wrong. Nope, this is how it is and if you don't see it that way, then you're stupid.

As a friend in politics put it in an unrelated discussion, it's a perspective where victory is not counted in persuading someone to your side, but in being right, and in stomping the limbs of the defeated into the scorched ground of their humiliation.

Which seems to be the way of the war of ideas lately.

Now, I have a room to finish painting, a kitchen to clear, a lawn to mow, and a quilt to sew before I pick up the parentals at 9:30pm tonight...

But at least the sun is shining and the sky is blue...for the moment. It probably won't stay that way for long, this being Sydney, but we can hope!
