It's been a while since I've been even vaguely fannish, but I'll give this a shot and see who bites. I'm in a mood to stretch my fannish brainspaces.
Ask my characters a question. I make you no promises they'll tell the truth, however...
Valid for: any characters I write, or in fandoms I write for, or in fandoms you know I'm thinking about writing...and possibly in fandoms you might like me to write in but which I'm not...yet.

"And one thing I believe the Lanteans could stand to learn is that it is not always necessary to meddle. Sometimes, it would be wiser to stand back and wait - what is that saying you have? 'Look before you jump?'"

And so as not to frustrate you by mentioning that I came up with answers too, and then not letting you know what they were, mine are as follows:
"I think that the people of Earth live perhaps a bit too much in the future, and as a result they miss the pleasures and treasures of the moment. Still, they have taught me that there is a whole different way of seeing the Wraith, that we need not be trapped into seeing them as the predators, and us as the prey. We have more in common with the Wraith than we ever imagined, and can stand up to them as equals, when we can use the technology of Atlantis to ward them off.

I think your answer is very valid for Teyla! She would learn to live in the moment, in the now, because there may not be any tomorrow.

Ronon: "The Lanteans have a saying about pissing on people when they're on fire. I think it applies here."
Rodney: "That's not pissing on people when they're on fire. And Sheppard would piss on Kanaan. In an instant."
John: "Could you be more helpful, perhaps?"
Rodney: "Do I look like I was sent to Atlantis to be the helpful brigade?"
Ronon: "Isn't that your job? Chief Scientist, problem solver, all-around help person, general complainer..."
Teyla: "Are we talking about Rodney?"
Ronon: "Yep."
Rodney: "So, Teyla, someone wanted to know what John thinks of--"
John: "Rodney."
Rodney: "I was just saying--"
John: "I know what you were just saying. And I don't think we need to go over it again right now. I have no problem with...certain people."
Teyla: "I take it the conversation is about Kanaan, then?"
Rodney: "Hey, how'd you guess?"
Teyla: "I believe it is because I was not born yesterday, Rodney. And you are all very transparent when you are talking about topics that you avoid around me."
John: "We like Kanaan."
Ronon: "Preferably dead."
John: "That's not funny."
Ronon: "Nope. But it's fun."
Teyla: "John does not like Kanaan any more than Kanaan likes John. But they are civil to each other, and will continue to be so."
Rodney: "So...is that a statement or a threat? Or both?"
Teyla: "You are reputedly intelligent, Rodney, I believe you are capable of figuring it out for yourself."
Rodney: "...Right. I'll just...be somewhere else. That isn't here."
John: "You do that."
Ronon: "I'll go with him."
Teyla: "I believe that would be wise."
John: "You know we're never going to be buddies or anything."
Teyla: "I am well aware of that, John. I do not expect you to be. But you are both important in my life, and he is Torren's father."
John: "I know, I just... Sometimes..."
Teyla: "Yes, John. I know. I do not think the less of you for it."
John: "Gee, thanks."
Teyla: "You are very welcome."
