On AO3, two of my Avengers fics have very similar comment and kudos counts, and very different hit counts.
"All The Perfumes Of Arabia" is Clint/Natasha, and has 324 hits.
"Sleepless in S.H.I.E.L.D." is Darcy & Nick Fury, and has 36 hits.
They both have around 7 kudos and 1 comment. That's 1/10th the readership for Sleepless, with equal return to All The Perfumes. Interesting, no?
It's always interesting to look at the stats on my story: which ones are most popular, which ones are least. How many people read a story and think enough of it to leave at least a kudos, and how few of them leave a comment compared with LJ or even the Pit Of Voles.
One thing I've always found curious about AO3 is that my John/Teyla D/s fics tends to be the most popular out of my John/Teyla fics. Or the John-whumpers. "Indenture" is my most popular John/Teyla on AO3 (where the military on Atlantis are the slaves of the scientists, and Elizabeth gives John to Teyla in the pilot) - although that could be because it's a multiparter - with "Fix" just behind it (John is brought back from captivity and his headspace is messed up), while "These Wings Taken" (where John has wings and is captured for slavery) manages to slip in at #19.
Then again, four of the other seventeen fics left in the top 20 are "Origami" (Discworld, Moist Von Lipwig/Adora Belle Dearheart), "A Debt Owing" (Merlin, Merlin/Morgana), "Good Morning" (SG1, Sam/Jack), and "Twenty Eight Days" (SG1, Sam&team with Sam/Jack, and major guy whump).
So that's 7 D/s fics out of the top 20. Pattern, much?
Most of the others are Yuletide fics, and have correspondingly higher commentage. Yuletiders are generally excellent readers in that they not only read but also leave kudos/comments!
Curiously, the top fic for hits is "Prince Of Camelot: Choice And Destiny" which is a Black Jewels retelling of the Merlin pilot. It has over 2,000 hits, but not even 20 comments.
Still, I think 20 comments is the most I've ever gotten on AO3. (The ones with higher counts tend to be comments that have turned into conversation threads.)
