I know I may be asking the wrong subset of people here but...

...are there still that many female fans around who think that "stories about women" are uninteresting? Or is it just that I don't associate with any of them - or the fandoms that tend to attract them?

I haven't ventured out into fandom for a long time, so I'm way out of it.

I'm pretty sure they still exist, but are slightly quieter now. (And also metafandom is gone and fandom_wank is quieter, so they tend to make fewer waves.) But you don't tend to go to fandoms they would be most interested in, and when fandoms overlap they aren't likely to read your stories. I mean, if they're in the Avengers for the slash, and read comicstore_news, they would see your latest story about Agent Hill as just a writer name, story title, character name, and pass it by for something else.
