So, it's a long weekend, I've (almost) finished my latest epic, and now that half the shows are back on, I have time to do some quilting...and while I'm quilting, watch TV shows.

I have 200+ pieces of fabric to cut up this weekend for the Eternity quilt - a kind of colour wheel fabric layout.

Eternity fabrics: I must be crazy.

That's a lot of fabric and a lot of cutting! (I'm trying not to think about the magnitude of the quilt. Don't make me think about the magnitude of the quilt.)

So, here's asking: what should I watch first? I need to know ASAP so I can get the downloads started tonight in time for watching tomorrow.

Castle, NCIS, and H50 were my "choice of quilting show" because I could 'watch' them without having to study the TV. I haven't seen Castle since mid last-season, NCIS since the end of S7 (yes, I'm very behind, but I have S8 on DVD) and H50 since the middle of S2.

Eureka might be an option, or Bones (although I'm horrendously behind Bones: mid S4, maybe S5?) and I have Community S1 and have only seen about 8 episodes.

However I've been recced Once Upon A Time and Cabin Pressure (an audio comedy series).

Thoughts? Recommendations on what should come first?

Or maybe I should just watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies one by one?

I cannot recommend Once Upon A Time highly enough, both in general and for tailored to your particular likes--oodles and oodles of awesome, strong, competent women, both good and evil and in between, allowed to have all kinds of relationships. It's smart, it's got humor, it's got drama, it's got action, it's got romance, it's got intrigue, it's awesome.

I mean, there are men, some of whom are important, but mostly it's about the women. You know how usually a modern ensemble cast is mostly men with a few token women, who are usually not the focus of stories? The proportion of men/women in OUaT is reversed from that, both in numbers and importance. Lots of episodes that pass the Bechdel, but very few that pass the reverse-Bechdel. When two men talk to one another, it's almost always about the women around them. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is more femslash in the fandom than any other I've ever seen. Lots and lots of it, and a good share of het, and I've only seen two pieces of "regular" slash that I can remember. So, yeah, lots of strong women being awesome, right up your alley.

However. It is also very intricate, with complex storylines and relationships (every episode has two interlocking A plots), and I don't think it's the kind of show that you can watch while doing something else. And it absolutely must be seen in order from the beginning. So something else for quilting, and OUaT for when you have time to sit and focus.

Caveat emptor about the fic, though. One of the two main pairings is a het pairing for Beauty and the Beast (don't read any fic until you've read that episode). What I love about the pairing is the moral ambiguities there that the show points out. What most of the fic that gets written is about is woobiness and Twu Wuv. (He's not an evil abusive bastard, he's just misunderstood! All he needs is the love of a good woman to reform him! Which is, uh, about the opposite of the message the episode was trying to convey.)

About the Marvel Cinematic Universe: have you heard about Avengers Assembled, which takes all the Avengers-verse movies (before the Avengers itself) and puts them into chronological order? So it starts out with a scene on Asgard when Thor and Loki were kids, then goes to Captain America, then Iron Man 1, then Iron Man 2/Hulk/Thor interspersed. It's interesting to watch it that way.

It's a fan cut. You can torrent it--I don't remember where I downloaded it from, but I heard about it from my flist and found it through a search.
