So, I finally got around to watching this during my lunch break.
That was some amazing acting, some amazing drama, some amazing story. In fact, my only complaint is that it was a little light on the actual case-ness. Then again, this is me - I like caseness.
But, um, yes. How to write a canon 'ship, as presented by Castle. Well done on the outside, but still a bit bloody inside.
...you know, I'm actually more anxious about Ryan/Esposito than I am about Castle/Beckett. Not as a slash pairing, just as a bromance.
And, uh, this is me. I don't usually notice the bromances, but the Ryan/Esposito thing was probably what hit me hardest in this ep. Possibly because every shipper in the Castle fandom had prepped me for Castle/Beckett, but nobody had me prepped for the split between the dynamic duo! And maybe it's because they usually present such a united front that this just hit me in the gut.
I can even see why the differences - Esposito's military background inclining him towards following his leader (in this case, Beckett), while Ryan's background is cop, and so he wants and needs to believe that he can trust his fellow cops. Plus, Ryan has someone to lose as well, so I suspect he sees Castle trying to protect Beckett and there's a seed of sympathy there.
Anyway, I'll get around to watching S5 sometimes soon. But I feel kind of embarrassed now that I've discovered I've managed to get myself invested in a bromance.
