My AO3 stats seem to be a bit weird things lately.

All of a sudden last month, I got some 4000 hits on "The Shatterdome Collective" - a Pacific Rim "spy organisation" AU.

Now, I suddenly have 9000 hits on "Widow's Moon" - the SGA/Black Jewels crossover (the John/Teyla prequel, not the Elizabeth/Ronon one that made my name in fandom).

There are no extra kudos on either. No comments. Nothing to show that anyone actually liked the stories in question. Just several thousand extra hits to the page for no reason that I can determine.

Has anyone else seen this happen to them?

Does anyone have an explanation for why the sudden jump in hits without anyone actually letting me know they liked it?

Spammers? Whenever I see and inordinate increase in views at my WP blog that's usually what it is. I'm not sure the point of it since they rarely leave their weird comments with a link (You know, "You be such a great and wonderful writer. Come to this link. :D)

And I got an email from AO3 about your story. I just want to say thanks up front. I know you didn't have to do it, you had a good excuse, albeit a painful one for you. But I'm looking forward to it.

I haven't noticed that (but then I don't pay much attention to my stats), though my fic with the highest hit count has some 20k hits. The next one down has like 5k. Not sure why the one has so many hits (possibly because it has multiple pairings?), but whatever.
