Oh, yeah, I had a thingy to badoodle, right?
(Sorry - not to be dismissive. It's just that it's a nice, lazy Sunday, I got a lot of things done, including some gardening, some sewing, cleaning the house, and I'm just about to head off to church. When I come back, I'm thinking I'll water the garden and turn the compost.
It's been a busy kind of a day and I forgot the meme until just now.)
Okay, so
gaffsie asked: A little bit about your history with writing. Were you one of those kids who were writing stories at an early age, or did you develop a fondness for it later on? And so on.
The first story I remember writing was about two princess – Princess Sunshine and Princess Rainbow. And I wrote a story and illustrated it with pictures of two pink (white) girls with yellow and brown hair, thin skinny arms, and boofy-skirt/boofy-sleeve dresses. I don't even remember what happened. There was probably Adventure. I'm pretty sure there was a suitor in there for Princess Sunshine (but he wasn't very important).
The first fanfiction I remember plotting was a Star Wars RotJ 'turn left' AU, where Luke turns to the Dark Side and Leia has to save him. With the help of a Mary Sue. I was maybe 9? Many years later, I still long for this fic. (No, not the comics, where the story is still about Luke, but the story where Luke is totally the damsel and Leia has to actively save him and be the hero.)
The first fanfiction I remember writing was a self-insert 'my friends and I walk into the universe' fic, where we went to Medieval Europe, the world of MASK (1980s super-tech show), and Etheria (She-Ra).
Yes, I was into princesses - albeit of the Adventuring kind.
Then I wrote a lot of 'original fic' in my teens and early 20s – mostly Harlequin-type romances that were hampered by my adolescent understanding of the world. But they had angst. Lots and lots and lots of angst. Quietly stoic angsters everywhere!
Discovered fanfic around 1997 (X-Men comics), and started going for women of the Adventuring kind, But only got really into fanfiction as we understand it today in 2001 with SG1 fandom and the Sam/Jack pairing.
Never looked back. Well, until now. (More about that on Tuesday.)
tl;dr: I've been writing a long time.
