So, after what feels like weeks of *handflappy* and not getting anywhere, I'm making progress in the Maria Hill epic. Nearly 9K, although that's just the opening mission and Maria's examination by Jemma. She still has to talk to Skye, and get in contact with Natasha.

Oh cripes. If I think about this, I'll go mad. Can't think about it. Just write.

I'm having real trouble writing Jupiter Ascending fic: the only story I really want to write is EPIC and a half (sequel to the movie: Jupiter In Eclipse) and is basically the crossover of crossovers.

Mako as a Recurrent Entitled, born and stolen from Earth in 1945 by Stacker Pentecost, former Legionnaire, who brought her up and taught her about her rights and responsibilities. She also wants to stop the production of Regenex: her Family has an alternative, but they can't break the Abrasax domination of the elixir market.

Maria as an Aegis commander, keeping an eye on those damned Entitled and their personal armies, playing politics with the Entitled Council, and trying to enable the Legion to do their job.

And, of course, Jupiter, who doesn't really understand the mess of Entitled politics she's walked into, and has no idea how to make it out in one piece. All she knows is that she wants to stop the production of Regenex, not just Earth, but the hundreds of other planets for Harvest she now owns as the Recurrence of Seraphi Abrasax.

And the thing is, she can't stop it without a war; she tries - they try - but human nature and selfishness is just too strong. And all their attempts turn to naught, and they're left staring at a universe on the brink of war - which leads to the final part of the trilogy: Jupiter Regnant wherein Jupiter basically takes over the universe.

But that's pretty much the story I want to write. I have notes and bits and pieces of other ideas, but I feel like I can't quite get a grip on Jupiter's voice. She's not my usual type for writing, which is probably why I'm struggling.

I woke up early this morning and wrote a few lines of original fic.

Part of the problem with original fic is that I don't quite know where my niche is, or what I want to write. I have plots for Children/YA, straight up Chosen One YA, and Action-Romantic series. I also have a plot for something that doesn't fall anywhere: a Chosen One narrative about a mature woman with a husband and family.

Chosen One narratives don't happen to mature women with responsibilities. Once a woman has a husband and children, it's generally accepted that her narrative choices are done with. No more adventures, no more excitement (unless it's a clandestine affair, which usually means casting off the husband and children in the process), no more life or change or new growth. Narrative normalism says that a woman, once she has a family, must be wholly dedicated to that family or she is irresponsible and should be shamed for her choices.

Truthfully, it's not just a question of wanting to write Mature Chosen One and feeling there isn't a market for it. I want to write all my characters, but the Children/YA and Chosen One YA have a market - but I'd have trouble being distinct in that market.
