okay, so, you know how I said it hadn't hooked me?
Consider me hooked.
Twists! Turns! Alliances! Switches! (And that snark between Lance and Bobbi. Look at that.)
This is a small game-changer episode; not as big as, say, "The Beginning of the End" but still pretty big.
The action is...the action. Which is fine and well and good. But all the little bits and pieces: Raina! Skye confronting Coulson! May holding Skye back! Fitz moving on! Jemma trying to be all sekrit agent (and failing miserably). Skye's father joining up with One Of The New Heads Of Hydra!
I like Bobbi's style of fighting; very Black Widow from IM2. (That last pose in particular.) Except now I'm not sure I can actually use her in the story I'm writing. The timing is all wrong given the conversations she has with Jemma. *frowns*
I wonder if I could use Isabelle-played-by-Lucy-Lawless instead. (Does Lance have a thing for blondes, then?) Alternatively, are there any other female techie characters in the MCU/AoS universe that I could use (who aren't Natasha or Skye)? I've already got a lock on Akela Amador - and you would not believe the hoops Maria had to jump through to get Akela out of SHIELD lockup - so...other characters? Otherwise, I could possibly co-opt Mack, but I'd prefer to keep it among the women. (Okay, so Maria would prefer to keep it among the women, and it's her op.)
Back to the episode: Jemma's return, the awkwardness between her and Fitz. Oh my heart. And the way she has a huuuuuge girl-crush on Bobbi! *giggles* I love the greeting between her and Trip: lovely friendship (at least) possibly more.
All the Skye confrontations. ALL THE SKYE CONFRONTATIONS. I mean, Melinda has it right when she says keeping Skye out of the loops isn't going to end well. THis is not a young woman who grew up inside the lines; she charmed, she hacked, she asked questions, she made demands. In her own way, Skye is as cunning as Raina - if a little less ruthless. Joining SHIELD has channelled that, and, I think, damped it down. I look forward to seeing her push more, though - Coulson, her team, her friends, her father...

Things that worry me:
I would be happier if Trip and Mack got their own storylines, not just doing support. I mean, Lance's quips are funny but...I don't know, too much and I'd get Maria-the-first-female-player-in-the-NHL to smack him over the head right good and hope it echoed across universes.
They'd better not be killing off Raina.
It would be nice if, apart from Ming Na, the cast weren't so overwhelmingly white. (Yes, Chloe Bennet is Eurasian, but while that's important, her appearance is "passing white". As full-blood Chinese, I don't visually ID myself with Chloe the way I do with Ming.) Also, since I hear that they're demonising Skye's mom to make Kyle whatsisname look better, and Certain Spoilers for future episodes, I am Not Inclined To Give Them A Pass on this.
I would watch the next episode, but I don't have it on the disk and I am presently immured by a cat snoozing/purring in my lap.
