I posted a while back about the disconnect between the people reading my LJ and the people whose LJs I read. Namely that the more likely it is that I read your LJ, the less likely it is that you read mine.
Looking through my LJ, I've noticed something. Most of the stuff I post is fannish. In fact, at least 99% of it is fannish.
However, the people whose LJs I read are mostly non-fannish. As a general rule, their LJ is for life, not fandom.
Also, this LJ seems to be largely read by under-25s. I don't know if that's because under-25s are more likely to have the time to be fannish, or because my style is more likely to appeal to under-25s.

There's also the fact that people at High School and College generally have much more time on their hands for something like this. Though obviously it depends on the individual in question.
Of course, being male and more than 10 years older than the age you mention means that I must be bucking the trend. ;)
