theladyscribe: You know that meme that goes around sometimes where you post your five favorite kinks and then five favorite couples, and it's like a wish into the universe to see if anybody will write it for you? Let's make it a little more interactive.
Comment here if you want to play, and I will give you 3-6 couples or characters that I associate with you, and you make an entry in your journal talking about those couples/characters and fics that you wish the universe would write for you.
She gave me: Steve/Maria, Mako/Raleigh, and Tony/Pepper.
Steve/Maria
I want a nice, long action-adventure story set through the MCU where they start as colleagues, become friends, and basically fall in love - through the fall of SHIELD, the rise of the Avengers, and the fall of their certainties. There are so very few falling-in-love stories for them that are set in-universe - they're either already in love, or together, or just dancing around it, or else it's an AU. Sometimes I'd like to read about the process of the fall - the little things, the psychoses, the irritations, and the moments. Except I don't want it to be a pure romance, I also want lots of politics and action and interaction, the various Avengers and SHIELD personnel, and maybe just a touch of angst.
Avengers as a sidenote, nobody plays yenta, everyone acts their age and like they're actual secret agents not twenty-somethings at college, there are consequences that might actually happen in the real world, Maria is awesome, Steve is respectful of her, and lots of the female characters in the MCU appear and hold discussions that aren't about Maria's relationship (or lack thereof) with Steve.
Yes, I want it.
Mako/Raleigh
Back in the days shortly after the movie, there was this fic about Raleigh basically becoming a kaiju. It was TERRIFYING. And I kind of want a story like that, where Raleigh starts dreaming of the Anteverse and the kaiju - only the fic I read pretty much ignored Mako's connection to Raleigh (I think the writer was a slash fan) and I want one of the key things about the story to be how Mako and Raleigh together deal with the changes that are happening to him, particularly in the post-Pitfall PPDC, and utilising the broader world of the PPDC, not just the handful of characters from the movie.
Additionally, the psychosis of the Drs. G drifting with a kaiju would be a rather interesting sidenote, I think, but I wouldn't want the story to be about them, and I'd want Hermann to be married to Vanessa, because: a) more women, b) the actual real-world complications of having a man in a relationship with a woman he loves, when he's shared his brain with a colleague and a baby kaiju.
They defeat the kaiju in the end, of course. Happy (ish) ending a must!
Tony/Pepper
This one is easy. I want the post-Civil War story of how they get back together. The full, complicated, messy, human, and painful deal - with bonus working through the follow-on consequences of the Avengers split, and the inclusion and assistance/smackdown of Maria, Rhodey, Fury, Friday, T'Challa, and Vision, but not Natasha. (Natasha has become my Rodney McKay of the MCU - the sheer volume of fannish worship of her has reached the end of my tether.)
Maria would, of course, be dealing with Steve and Sam and the other Avengers, and Fury could reference the work Natasha is doing on the QT, but that would all be in the background of the story - alluded to rather than mentioned.
And no, it's not exactly a 'nice' outcome for Pepper in terms of "she deserves better". Of course she does. But Hillary deserves better than Bill Clinton, and yet, as Scalzi said in a post defending why he'd vote for Clinton, "perhaps she loves him".
I want the 'perhaps she loves him' story for Tony and Pepper.

I kind of started something like the Maria/Steve plot. Only problem is that Part 1 turned out to be 50K and then Civil War screened and I'm still angry that there's no sign of Maria being in the future MCU.
(Although Cobie in the new 'Jack Reacher' trailer feels a little bit "this is where Maria was while Civil War was going down"...)

For the life of me I dunno why they make Maria so bitchy in the comics. I was looking at them to get a bit of a fix because she's not in the MCU, but Lord, it's like the stereotype of every powerful non-girly woman ever. She's a pragmatist! She does what has to be done! She's the one going "What about all the repercussions" when the superheroes are all over destroying everything! ....well that's my Maria anyway.
Altho they could just appoint her head of SHIELD IN THE TV SHOW, but no, that had to go to some older white dude. Because the TV shows and movies never shall meet, sigh. IDEFK. What a way to run a /multizillion dollar media empire/ railroad.

There was a really interesting article sometime back which indicates that the Marvel Movies guys think of the TV shows as dinky little sidepieces that aren't really worth investing. They want the TV shows to feed into the movies, but they don't really care about continuity or crossover or effective use of characters. *scowls*
