writing in the gap

I've been doing the getyourwordsout challenge for...quite a number of years now.

I'll be doing it again next year. 500K in a year - well, I'm currently at 400K, and that's before I've counted my Yuletide fic or treats, written my Captain Hill exchange, or stuffed any fandom stockings. There's still time.

So. 500K in 2017. Of which I intend that at least 100K will be an original manuscript. I say this every year, but have put it off. I think I'm old enough to give no fucks, and considering one of the themes is about bullying, I think it's time for me to write it.

Not sure whether my unfinished fics in MCU will ever be finished; there were a few SGA fics that got left mid-tale, and every now and then I receive a request from someone begging me to finish one of the SG1 WIPs. Sometimes you start something in good faith and then aren't able to complete it to your satisfaction. That's the way the cookie crumbles, sad as it might be.

So, we'll see what happens in 2017. If Maria Hill is confirmed in anything, then who knows, I might change my mind. And the Wonder Woman movie might prove promising. We'll see.

Wow! This is like NaNoWriMo on crack! I'm almost tempted to join but I'm scared of what that kind of pace will be like on my nerves. But I'll def cheer you on for the 100k of original fic.

Actually, it's rather less taxing that NaNo - even at 500K, that's only 1.3K a day, while NaNo requires at least 1.66K a day!

(This year I did all my writing in March and May - in fact May was more than double the usual wordcount... Can't imagine how I was inspired back then...)

My problems is consistency. I can word sprint in huge chunks and then I'll go months without writing at all. It's not a good process I admit.

Wasn't May Civil War month? I can see how that would have been a super productive month.

Yes, May was Civil War month. And we've been pretty dead in the water since then. :(

I know :( I've been super slack with it. Even now I'm procrastinating by wrapping presents instead. But I think I'll join getyourwords out and devote 100k to fic

That's why I have only twice posted things that weren't already complete--sometimes, you start something in good faith and just can't finish it.

I guess sometimes it's important to have the story out there for me, even if it's not finished. I know that's annoying to the reader, but a story that's out there representing what I want to read and can't find anywhere else - that's a big thing for me, even if it's not finished.

It's not actually very important for me to have the story out there, most times. Different strokes for different folks.

I did getyourwordsout for the first time this year and I will be doing it next year, too. It was a great experience and inspired me to write more than I'd been doing before.

500k sure is goal! I'm impressed! Even 400k is awe inspiring. Go you :D

I don't think I'll ever be able to write that much in a year, but I'll just admire from afar :D
