fic positivity

I'm going through the fic positivity thread, starting with people who haven't got any replies to their comment and seeing if there's anything I can add (if there's anything in their repertoire that I'll read).

In the meantime, I've discovered I'm actually pretty bad at telling people what they're good at in writing as a whole. I can focus in on specific stories, specific characters, specific concepts, but if you ask me for the big picture...? Nope. Can't do it.

It's a bit like my view on bands - I may like most music by a band, but I'm not about to commit to all of their music. There are bands and singers who have a better chance of getting my attention and keeping it and being put on my playlists, but that's still not a guarantee.

Ah well, I'll keep working my way through the list...

It's also more difficult to do big-picture -- you have to know a lot of an author's oeuvre to pinpoint their patterns. And thanks for doing that! I should too. :)

I figured it was a way to get involved in the fic positivity when I'm not a huge fanfic reader (tbh, most people don't write fanfic in the genres or about the characters/pairings that I like, so it's not surprising).

I've been doing the same thing. A lot of people have a ton of nice comments, though, already! Which is fantastic. I forgot to actually add myself to the list? Whoops. I just figure I have so many fandoms, I can stand to read a few more things. ;)

Sometimes you find unexpected gems!

I found someone who writes Bucky/Sam from Sam's POV and he sounds like Sam should sound (which I really struggle with).

I got through the first page and burnt out. Going to have to work my way through slowly. It is hard, especially when I don't know most (or all) of their fandoms.

For the first round, I stuck with people who didn't have any replies to their comment, and then I looked for something I could read, and even once I found fandoms I could read, I only looked at stories that had characters/pairings I wanted to read.

My time is limited, and I figured that if I'm going to encourage people, I might as well encourage the ones who are going to read more of what I like.

I've been in these memes a couple of times where one or two people commented and nobody else did. It's always rather demoralising...
