I've been preoccupied with the garden this last week. Setting the chickens up in their pen, working out what they can be fed and how to feed them - lots of things big and small.

I moved them on to the next bed this morning:

Chooks in garden.

Where the chook pen is now is the new bed, while the bare space next to it is the old one, where they've been for two weeks.

They've scratched the place pretty much down to the dirt, and probably could have been left there another week. Unfortunately, this week is 'sowing fruits' week according to moon cycles, which meant I have to plant out all the seedlings I've been planting for the last month so I have more space for new seedlings.

The corn has been planted out just this evening, since there was a light sprinkle of rain going, and it seemed like a good time to do it. I stuck a sweet potato vine in the back, we'll see if anything comes of planting that; I can leave it for a good long while, anyway - maybe dig it up next spring.

I'll sow beans and cucumbers among the corn tomorrow, and transplant tomatoes and zucchini into the front of the bed. I should do a bit of reading up tonight - whether I can plant the onions, carrots, and sugarbeet among them - they'll be a long-term crop in the front, but once the corn is done, probably sometime around March, I can probably replace it with peas and more beans.

Garden details at my gardening blog.

Also needed: a drip irrigation system, because I pulled the old one out - it was a soaker hose which lost all the water early on rather than watering all the plants evenly. Granted, it's a bit late to put it in now, but I can modularise it to some extent. (I think.) It just might be a bit pricey... D:

I don't have work this week - maybe one day, if the last client needs me back. Otherwise, I get to catch up on my NaNo, and see to my garden this week. And possibly catch up on sleep.
