I wrote two Calvin and Hobbes fics for Yuletide, one assignment, one pinch hit. I had several options for the assignment, but the story that wanted to be told was the one about passing Hobbes on, so I wrote it.
Title: Eye Of The Tiger (2318 words) by tielan
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Calvin & Hobbes
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Calvin/Susie Derkins, Calvin & Hobbes (Calvin & Hobbes)
Characters: Calvin (Calvin and Hobbes), Hobbes (Calvin and Hobbes), Susie Derkins, Mr. Bun, Original Characters
Additional Tags: Family, Childhood, Adulthood, Passing The Baton
Summary: Calvin isn't sure about this business of passing Hobbes on. However, it may not be up to him.
I wanted to preserve the ambiguity of Hobbes' nature, while adding in a little something more in Susie's relationship with Mr. Bun, and giving a snapshot of what adult life might look like to those two.
The story was pretty well taken - I think that's the most comments I've ever received on a fic in a YT fandom!

The second request was about holding onto the magic of childhood and not giving in to the 'adult' world. But Calvin needs to eat and drink and have money, so he needs a job. I did manage to avoid giving him an office job, though. And travelling seemed like a good way for him to continue to stretch his imagination - and to contemplate the philosophy of a world with less in it.
I nearly summarised this with the words of Jack Sparrow to Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End:"the world's still the same; there's just...less in it..."
Title: wider than the whole world (1350 words) by tielan

I really wanted to work out how to get Lilo and Stitch into the fic, but the problem was with the fact that Stitch definitely exists, while Hobbes' status is indeterminate, and I wanted to keep that. However, I think I've worked something out since then. I better scribe some notes...
