Dear Chocolateer,
We hopefully matched on something that you enjoy and I enjoy, which means that we can both of us enjoy this fic - you'll enjoy writing it, and I'll enjoy reading what you've written. I hope that can be the case, anyway.
To that end, the ideas in the fandoms section of this letter are just that - ideas. I hope that one of them strikes your fancy, but if not, please don't twist yourself in knots trying to write one of them. Sometimes the brain works with the ideas, sometimes it doesn't.
Finally, if a relationship is marked as a pairing eg. "1stCharacter/2ndCharacter", I'd like the relationship to be physically or emotionally romantic - kisses or touching or sex, feelings and emotions and dealing with each other.
LIKES:
- female characters at the heart of the narrative
- interactions between characters, characters working together
- respectful romantic relationships
- stories of adventure and drama
- slices of life
- happy or hopeful endings
- character studies through interaction
- action/adventure/drama
DNW:
- pure scene setting with no interaction or dialogue by the characters
- character death
- cheating partners (but especially not to get the requested pairing)
- humiliation as humour
It's the usual suspects this year.
MCU
Carol & Maria Hill
Bucky/Maria
Maria & Pepper
Maria/Steve
Steve/Maria/Pepper/Tony
Can include canon or not as you wish, but please ignore/avoid/dismiss Steve's ending in Endgame, no matter what pairing you are or aren't writing. It's the 'sits on perfect ass for 70 years' bit that pisses me off, and no amount of fan-theories explaining the bifurcating trousers of time travel is going to make me happy about it. No, not even that one that you're sure will. Please don't.
I see any friendship between Carol and Maria perhaps starting off around Fury but rapidly moving on from there. World security? What does world security look like from 'out there' as compared to 'down' here'? How they deal with the Boys' Club? Or even a mission that requires the both - yes, even an unpowered, unsuperheroed, unimportant human woman. After all, Carol was once an unpowered human woman who was seen as unimportant, too.
With Maria & Pepper, I'd like to see behind-the-scenes interactions. Not just around the Avengers or world security, but small and ridiculous things of life and living. Or, after Endgame, Maria meets Morgan Stark and Morgan gets to meet this Maria Hill that she's occasionally heard about but is one of those people that she's not supposed to ask about because Mom And Dad Get Sad And Angry.
Bucky/Maria and Steve/Maria are my 'woman with a tough shell is hit on by a heroic guy who can't possibly be interested in her' slash 'sex is easy, relationships are hard' pairings. And I love the opportunities for professional/personal interaction that exist for these two pairings - little things in between the big events, nothing too sappy and romantic, just small and telling interactions. Outsider POV is very welcome for this, too. And a threesome is also an option.
I'd like the 4-way pairing as a sedoretu - Maria/Steve, Steve/Tony, Tony/Pepper, Pepper/Maria - set during/around MCU: Civil War would be fantastic (Maria and Tony on one side, Steve and Pepper onthe other) - but if that's too ambitious, then go with whatever scenario you like, or a typical OT4 works, too.
(And now I'm thinking I should have asked for Maria/Steve, Steve/Bucky, Bucky/Nat, Nat/Maria sedoretu in Endgame. D'oh.)
I don't mind fusion AUs for this fandom. I enjoy Pacific Rim fusions, paranormal romance, and 'unpowered AUs', but if you have something that you're particularly wanting to try, then go for it!
Pacific Rim
Mako & Herc
Mako & female character
Mako & Jake
Mako & Stacker
Mako/Raleigh & Nate
Mako & Jake & Stacker
Mako & Nate
Mako/Raleigh
Mako/Raleigh & Jake
Yancy & Mako
Friendships/romances during war, friendships/romances during peace. Obviously, given that I love Mako, ignore that part of the story in Pacific Rim: Uprising, and give me her interaction with any and all of the characters we matched on.
Mako/Raleigh is my OTP in this fandom. I really want to see them post-PR, making a life together, dealing with the consequences of the Drift (Drifting together three times, instead of dozens might leave a kind of half-finished feeling about their connection - after all, most piloting pairs work together for months, if not years). Being sweet and sexy and tender with each other, dealing with the praise and notice of the world after they've survived closing the Breach, dealing with each other's nightmares and griefs in the losses that they're dealing with? You choose! Dealing with Jake or Nate (or Jake and Nate) would certainly be interesting - is there hero-worship?
Mako & any female character in the canon/extended canon. That includes Tamsin Sevier, Angela Hansen (Angela Lives AU), any female pilot or Shatterdome worker or female Marshal (there's got to be some, right)... Whatever you like!
Mako & Herc, Yancy & Mako, Mako & Nate: these are Mako dealing with men who might have an instinct to be protective about her although they're not technically related. Bonus points if the reason the guy is protective about her is partly because of Drifting with someone who cares about her (you can make it a Yancy-Lives scenario for this one).
Finally, the Pentecost found family. A little dysfunctional in the way they relate, because they're not really a soft and Hallmark-esque family, but still caring and still good. Perhaps something amusing and a little awkward - where expectations of family don't match with reality. Mako and Jake working out how to deal with each other through the kaiju war and how she and Jake come to their comfortable interaction in the second movie. Or just some 'family oriented' celebration (lunar new year comes to mind) which...doesn't work out. Or does work out. Or works out...only not in the way that anyone expected.
Stargate Atlantis
John/Teyla
Teyla & Lorne
Teyla & Elizabeth
Teyla & Ronon & John & Rodney
Atlantis in the Pegasus galaxy, a slice of life day, how people work friendships/relationships into the middle of a situation where there would be no work/life balance. Or a team/adventure-of-the-week fic. Ha, how about an adventure-of-the-week fic that only features Teyla and Elizabeth, none of the guys?
So the thing that I really liked about SGA was the possibilities of rewriting the 'first contact' stories that we have. I was hoping to see something other than colonialist attitudes of our superiority and knowing better for entire cultures who don't have our history... And that turned out about as well as one would expect for stories written by American/Canadian white-passing people.
It doesn't help that the Atlantis expedition are that much more technologically advanced than the cultures in Pegasus, sure, but I didn't feel they needed to merge technological superiority with cultural superiority. Some things that have developed in the Pegasus galaxy have developed because they worked, and they were the options that the Pegasus peopls had at the time.
That said, I do enjoy stuff about the 'little moments' of the Atlantis expedition - midnight snacks, how in-jokes come to be, friendships and romances that are formed on similarities and differences and shared experience, and how to manage personal relationships in a place that is both 'home' and 'work' all at once. This is probably something that Teyla has experience in, but it's not something that would necessarily be instantly familiar to the others - even the military personnel when out on assignment wouldn't think of it as 'home' the way they'd have to in Atlantis.
Character moments, little interactions, amusing anecdotes and hilarious situations that they're in...whatever comes to mind with the characters/relationship that's there, I'd love to see it!
Jupiter Ascending
Jupiter & Kiza
Jupiter & Diomika Tsing
Jupiter/Caine
Jupiter & Aunt Nino & Aleksa Jones
Stinger & Jupiter
Stinger/Aleksa Jones
I'd love something about Jupiter and the relationships around her as she takes on Space Capitalism. Or just a short interlude about Life After Becoming Queen. Feel free to worldbuild at will!
Jupiter & [people from off Earth]: So, one of the things that I love about Jupiter's story is that she's very much an Earth woman of her time and place - a millenial, an illegal immigrant, a dreamer, but trapped by her circumstances, until the Queen Of The Universe storyline gives her that magical out. Of course, she's now the Queen Of The Universe with Bonus Space Capitalism and a big side helping of Space Bureaucracy, and while it could all happy and roses, Jupiter has seen the arse end of Earth and I can't see her letting that sit.
What I'd love to see is all the little interactions of Jupiter dealing with what other people expect of her vs. what she does. If you want to do the worldbuilding, then that's fine, but this is chocolate box, so just the little moments between Jupiter and Kiza/Stinger/Diomika where there's a disconnect between what Jupiter expects vs. what is.
Jupiter/Caine I see as a D/s situation without the physicality. It's basically about power and submission and the negotiation of that - only the D is trying to get the s to assert more, and the s doesn't want to because that's not his instincts wrt to her. So, I'd love to see them negotiating how the relationship works in the public eye and out of it. Or, you know, just happy fun times and sex with wings. (Okay, maybe a dash of jealousy/angst.)
I also like Jupiter's family as thoughtless but not abusive. As in, they are fond of her, but they're so caught up in their own little concerns that they have no room for her dreams. Absently unappreciative rather than deliberately cruel. How does her relationships with the Bolotnikov's change, particularly with her mom and Nino who are closest to her, who would notice the changes in her and in her thinking? Oh, and I don't think I've seen a fic where Nino gets to find out that Jupiter is indeed destined for greatness. That would be fun!
Stinger/Aleksa is just an off-the-wall fun pairing that I like to occasionally see. Go for your life in whatever dimension you please!
Crossovers
Note: I want the MCU version of Maria Hill, which is a competent woman canonically trusted by most heroes in canon, with friends in the Avengers, and a dry/droll sense of humour.
Teyla Emmagan & Maria Hill
Maria Hill & Faith Lehane
Maria Hill & Bruce Wayne
James Bond/Maria Hill
Maria Hill & James Bond
Diana (Wonder Woman) & Maria Hill
Competent people working/romancing together. You can merge their canons, or have random crossovers, whatever works for you!
I'm going to leave this one pretty blank, because I figure if you've chosen this option, then you've got your own vision of how this is going to work and I'm likely to be good with that. So long as the women are not damsel-ly and the men are not assholes, then I'm sure I'll enjoy it!
Thank you for writing for me!
These are all just ideas, if you can't work something from this, then go with the characters and relationship we matched upon and go for your life! I'm looking forward to reading your gift to me!
