So I'm COVID-negative (still), but there's definitely something else going on. Bacterial? Viral? Who knows? Antibiotics help me breathe, but they're not clearing it all up anymore. So I'll probably need to rest rest rest rest quite a bit over the next couple of days.

All of Sydney ("Greater Sydney") is now a hotspot to most of the rest of Australia; borders are going 'hard closed' - by which they mean people going from NSW to another state must get a COVID test and quarantine for a fortnight. It's rough on a lot of people whose plans to spend Christmas with family and friends in other states has gone up in smoke.

Our conservative state government is going for a "suppression strategy" which means they're hoping for people to be reasonable and to end up with manageable numbers. Which might work, maybe, but it could blow up, too. No hard lockdown. No enforced restrictions on individuals. The restrictions that Victoria and Queensland and Western Australia introduced and enforced (all with centrist governments) are not the things that NSW's conservative government is going to do.

*breathes*

I have two sisters who work essential services. There is NO WAY they are going to give up their work, which are callings not just jobs. *sigh*

We're not in a risk category, I just...really don't want to get COVID, y'know? And now, with the US going nuts in numbers and the UK developing new strains and Europe shutting down everywhere even as the vaccine comes on the scene...

Australians are not slated to get any vaccines until March. We won't have 85%+ vaccination rates until September next year. And the first doses will go to essential workers, aged care workers, politicians, and people with way more money than they could ever spend in a lifetime.
