It never ceases to amaze me how many grown men are quite incapable of operating a dishwasher in an office setting*.

* and possibly also in a home setting.

If all you want is something very simple for dinner, it's really quite difficult to find. And they serve SO MUCH FOOD.

I didn't sleep very well last night, in spite of exhaustion. I think I had indigestion which my sister thinks wasn't surprising given how large the meal I was served last night was. Wish I'd had a takeaway container and I'd have saved more. In fact, the reason I ran the dishwasher was because I could tuck my takeaway container in on top and get it washed that way, suitable for tonight's dinner...whatever that might be.

This morning, I had a single-orgin espresso coffee with a splash of milk. I think the barista was a little confused; he checked with me first if I wanted the milk hot or cold, and then wasn't sure if he'd put in enough. Instead of buying a pastry from the cafe/coffeeshop, I ate an apple that I'd brought from home.

On of the reasons I had the 'odd' coffee order was because yesterday I ordered a small latte and got a large one instead. I drank the whole thing and I think the full cup of full cream milk (12oz) did ugh-y things to my stomach, filling me up and leaving me feeling bloated (on top of the period). Even a day later, I'm still feeling quite overly-full, even after lunch was only the 2nd half of yesterday's lunch. Then again, I've been feeling overly full for a few days now - one part having to finish things (like the ramen noodle soup and trimmings) and one part eating too often and not exercising enough to burn it off. Might have to eat minimally for the rest of the week.

I definitely have to start running again. At this point I've been graded into Team 2 which is...pretty good. Some good players in there, a few friends, and definitely a mix of the two, so I'm pretty happy. Although if the really fast but not very skilled player has been graded into Team 1, I'll be a bit annoyed. (I'm still wondering if the Team 1 coach doesn't like me.) Anyway, at a guess, the team is right about my level, but I'll definitely need to get my fitness up for it.

Also needed: a trip to the podiatrist for a better set of orthotics.

I have realised that what I need in my PNR series is a 'book 0' or a book about the MC before the bigger arc takes off in the one that I'm trying to write now. That makes the connections between the MC and all the other characters who are going to litter the landscape through the next four or five books. (Still haven't worked out how long this thing is.) So that's kind of a relief. Now HAHAHA I just have to write it.

If you're worried about me in the Sydney floodings, by the way, fear not. I'm not near any rivers - we're actually in the 'foothills' of the Sydney Hills - about 11m above sea level, not really near any of the big rivers or water bodies. In addition, the house is built off the ground and the soil is pretty absorbent. There were some big puddles at the lowest point of the garden during the week, but We're doing okay, the people we know are doing okay. But, yeah, after last year's fires, this year's flooding is going to hit a lot of people really hard.

*sigh*

I feel like I have it in me for a piece on the intersection of being a woman, being of Chinese ancestry, and being a Christian. It's a big question here in Australia, too: sexism, racism, and religion all hitting or being hit hard at once. And frankly I'd rather I wrote it than some conservative white male for Eternity News, because frankly more often than not their take is BAAAAAD.

I am le tired.

Or how many men expect women in an office to run one?

I’d been pretty sure, given a picture you’d posted of your house showing a definite slope to the land, that you were fine, but it’s nice to know for sure. Thank you.

Australia and the U.S. have different histories, and a different mixture of populations, but both have horrifying and continuing issue of racism arrived at in those separate ways. My bestie in childhood, born here, was half Korean, with a Caucasian American father with long roots in this country, and an immigrant naturalized mother, and until he hit his teen years and he developed a father’s-side nose, looked fully Asian. It angered me so much when other kids used a nasty rhyme with gestures that starts “Chinese, Japanese...” which I will not dignify with a continuing here or anywhere, but still more irritated by the othering that went on. Kids with other racial backgrounds, even if their folks had strong accents, if they sounded American were assumed to be American. He, born here, speaking with an accent identical to my own, was constantly asked “Where are you from?”

I know that none of this is new to you. This is your lived experience. I tell you not to shock you or enlighten you, but to let you know that I stand with you. Half a world away, but I do what I can, and I teach my children the pain and the unfairness of that othering. I work to do what I can to build a world where it will no longer be a fact in people’s lives.

I married a man who pitches in and does dishes, yes even in an office setting. He was one of three boys and all of them do. Obviously what we need is more women like my mother-in-law, because I am well aware that he and his brothers are in the minority!

Glad to hear the floods aren't affecting you.

Australia seems to be doing it's own version of Trumpism right now, which I find disappointing. I know Australia has a very macho culture, much like our western USA does, but Lord God, get a clue, people!
