So I had two games today:

Game 1, Team 3, padding up to play goalie.
Game 2, Team 2, playing on the field.

For Game 1 I turned up with 30 minutes to get into gear and prep, but due to serious traffic on a major road, there were doubts about whether we'd have a full team for the game. And since the goalie for Game 2 (which was immediately after at the same field) had come along to watch the game, they asked her to pad up, and me to play on the field.

So I played on the field, and scored a goal in the first quarter! An extremely rare occasion when a goalie scores a goal for her team rather than against it (eg. accidentally kicking the ball into the goal after an opposing forward has touched it in the circle).

I played about half a game for that one, on and off. We won 3-0.

Game 2 we were playing against the same club, but the next team up. And it was a pretty even. No score for the first quarter, then one per quarter for us thereafter, and one for them in the final quarter.

I'm usually a forward - set on the wing, there to get the ball down the sideline and either shoot or pass to someone who can. But I started as the half-back (midfielder), and moved all over the field - inner (forward), fullback, and then the wing a couple of times. Pretty much the only position I didn't play was goalie.

I didn't mind, but it was definitely a challenge!

No goals for me, but we won 3-1: they got a goal in the last quarter. Still, they made us work for it!

I had a few good moments - one where I stopped a ball that was going back down the field, got it to the forward line, they passed among themselves and scored.

The other one was where I got the ball and ran down about half the field with two defenders trying to take the ball from me. All my team-mates were behind me on the field, so I had nobody to pass ahead to. They ended up getting it from me and passing to a third defender, and then got in my way which meant I couldn't attack the ball again. But once I realised it was just me and the three, I kind of started laughing while running: my sense of the ridiculous was getting the better of me. It probably didn't help my running, all things considered.

Our opponents were probably one of the better teams in our competition. We'll probably end up battling them in the semis at least - but then, with this team, we usually do.

Anyway, great first round: all our teams won, with three points against 2, 1, and 0 respectively for teams 1, 2, and 3!

But I was absolutely shattered and spent about an hour in a bath of epsom salts. Oof.
