I see John as a private guy, sure. But I see him opening up to Teyla more than he does to anyone else on the show - there's a degree of comfort between them that suggests a willingness to be intimate - on John's part, particularly. that's an interesting point, it's almost like she is his emotional anchor.
Well, I admit that I envision it more as a "they have history" pairing, not a "current in the here and now" pairing. i'm totally down with past sam/john. i've read some and it's interesting.
