Trying to nominate for YT. Trying to imagine what I'd like. Which characters in Melanie Rawn's casts of thousands? Do I want S.W.A.T or Tokyo Crazy Paradise? Should I take a punt on Spiderman Ultimates or just give up? Has anyone nominated the 500 Kingdoms yet? I want someone's take on JoJo of the Rainfire pack! But I also want the courtship of Danae and Talen from the Elenium!

ARGH.

It's actually almost impossibly tricky to pick something that at least a couple of other people know and are willing to write, let alone want. *sigh* Also there is the perennial problem (not just YT) of, even if there are people in my fandom, they don't want the characters or relationships that I do. I know, YT doesn't require relationships. But still.

Otherwise it is the Mid-Autumn Festival throughout Asia. I want to make mooncakes and have bought a ridiculous amount of ingredients towards that end... Whether it will get made this side of Christmas? *shrugs*

Honestly, I just kinda want to cook for people. I think there's something psychological in it. Comfort food, but also comfort company.

Work is kind of quiet right now, with perhaps the exception of a go-live that is...probably happening this Sunday. Some Sunday work was always to be expected in this job. It hasn't yet clashed with hockey, we might see how that goes in the next year...

I feel like I've forgotten how to transition scenes at some point. I don't know when to skip over the detail and when to draw the complete picture. I can plot a gripping story from go to whoa, but which bits to do sweepting strokes and which bits to pick out with a fine-brush? That's hard.

I need new icons. Or, at least, different ones. I don't like all these ones anymore, and I need a better selection.

I'm with you on icons, but I only think of it during the week. On the weekends I end up doing other things. Why?

I love having people over and cooking. Or going to a friend's and cooking. :) There's a beautiful sense of community. Some neighborhoods in my city used to have potlucks that we loved going to.

*sigh* Hold out hope that one day they happen again.

Food is pleasure and family and friends and companionship. Or, at least, food with these things is superlative, even more than the food itself.

I miss the Mid-week Supper Group that existed back in the late 00s, early 10s, before that group of friends had children. And I miss the BBQ lunches/long socials on public holidays that we didn't have in 2019 and obvs haven't been able to have in 20-21. And I miss the brunches with friends every now and then - between five and fifteen of us all sitting down at a cafe and chattering away for an hour or more.

We still managed to have some family/relative feasts for Christmas and Chinese New Year, but the last few months in Sydney have been bleak. *sigh*

I haven't been to a potluck in years and I have really fond childhood memories of potluck dinners with 'the potluck family' - a group of friends from church who all had kids the same age, and our parents were friends. Alas, the parents split over an acrimonious divorce-and-remarriage scenario, and the kids grew up and got married and drifted away, as one does. Haven't found much of a potluck community yet. My bible study has done dinners where one or two people cooked, and then delivered to everyone, and we ate together over a zoom call. That was kind of fun; not as good as being together in person, but good enough for the times.

Anyway, this comment ended up long and slightly maudlin! I apologise profusely. :)

I miss lunches out. I super miss saying "let's hang out downtown" and just wandering about. I'm extra sad as this is my favorite season to do just that. :( I miss so much more than I thought I would, honestly. We're doing all we can.
