Contemplating taking a PH for Remix, only I doubt that anything I'd write would satisfy the original author.

So is the remixed story for them? Or for me?

I have a candidate for remixing, but it might be too snarky to call it "The Most Useless Person In The Universe (Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride remix)"?

In remixes? Definitely for you. They're not like exchange fics, and imo they don't have to necessarily please the author; it's nice if they do, but it's not as much of a requirement.

Maybe don't go with the snarky title, though. XD

Remix is a very writerly challenge, I've always thought. It can a be a lot of fun trying to find a way to do the same story but in your own style, which I suppose was the original intent of the challenge, and I've certainly read some very imaginative ones.

It can very much feel like a gift for the original author - and it is disappointing if the original author doesn't like what you've done. But it isn't a gift, so write it your way and see what happens.

Remix is explicitly for the remixer, not the original author; that's why, while you can have "safe" stories that can't be remixed, you can't have DNWs or requests in your optional details. They got their shot at writing the story, now it's your turn. You can't change pairings, and it would be a dick move to bash their story/characters, but other than that ... it's all about you, baby. How would you have written that story?
