*sigh*

Hockey Club: we had about a dozen people attend the AGM, but nobody stood for the roles we needed. This is partly because all the people who attended have been on the committee for multiple years at this point, and partly because we're all busy elsewhere.

The eternal problem with these kinds of organised clubs; you need a committee to do the organising.

Also, we're losing quite a few players who've been heavily involved in the club - they're not sure they'll play, they're tired, they've got other things to focus on... The last three years have been pretty exhausting on any front, but when trying to organise and manage things in and out of restrictions and requirements, it's all a lot.

And most people "just want to turn up and play". Which is understandable, but a lot of people have been doing this for a long time, and quite a few people have been doing the hard yards.

And basically, if we don't find new people to do the hard yards of organising, then there won't be any "turning up to play". People will end up joining other clubs, paying more money, and probably enjoying it less, because our club is pretty easy going compared with some out there.

It's interesting that my permaculture group has seen this as an issue and started developing ways to pull more people in over the last couple of years. Courses for newbies, connecting new people into the local communities, getting people who do certain courses to give brief presentations on what they learn, encouraging people to be as linked in to everything as possible.

I mean, it's easier with a club that has group gardening as part of its core, and regular meetings that involve talking/connecting/common knowledge - as compared to common action, which is what hockey does. Which is great, but also can be isolating if all you do is turn up to play and then go home, and maybe don't even get involved in the club organisation.

Anyway.

I feel like I just want a year off. That if I can get a year off, then I can rejuvenate my brain and my space. That's the theory, anyway...

I'm just so tired right now.
