Where do you get the energy to do all you do? asked by [personal profile] timespirt

I really don't know. It doesn't feel like much until I list what I've done and then I think "huh, that's actually quite a lot".

I've always had a lot on. It's just the way I live life. I suspect, one part of it is "if I stop running, I might never start up again". It's not keeping busy so much as maintaining momentum.

A decade (?) ago, I have a vague memory of posting something along the lines of the old Bon Jovi song: Sleep When I'm Dead. And yeah, I have a lot of energy, a lot of things to do, and just enough organisation to get most of them rolling along.

Tip: Sometimes doing things in 10-minute stints is a really effective way of doing things. I put a timer on, do the thing, and when the timer goes off, I either restart the timer and keep going, or take a break.

I went to visit a friend tonight - he got COVID six weeks ago and is now living with long COVID. He's a bit like me, actually - go go go. He's had to stop. That's really hard for him, and because it's hard on him, it's hard on his family. So I sympathised a lot with his situation. I'd also be bored out of my brain if I got long COVID. *crosses fingers*

Regarding my body and its limits: so I started with a healthy, working body to begin with. I also grew up middle-class with food always on the table, and we didn't live in a food desert. My mother had the time and know-how of cooking from scratch, so we didn't have much ultraprocessed food.

Not to mention that I've never had a chronic illness or a major health setback. In short, I had a lucky start with a working body, and so far the luck has held.

In terms of things I can control: I sleep as much as I can. I eat pretty healthy (and am getting better at determining what my body can take instead of eating like I'm 30, or even 35, or even 40). I take multivitamins (when I remember), and iron tablets (my iron levels are almost always low). And I still don't eat a lot of ultraprocessed food - I like it, yeah, but usually in small amounts.

Generally I try to work, rest, and play hard.

Could probably do with a bit more sleep though. Should probably do that now. ::grin::

Being forced to stop is hard.

Thank you for your answers. I wish my life had started and kept up with non processed foods. I went Vegan a while ago but I already had the illnesses I have so being tired all the time is one of the things I live with. I still keep going because if I didn't I would give up all together.

I'm sorry your friend has long COVID. That is my fear since I have had COVID 2 times already. I'm hoping I never get it again.

Stay healthy and keep going.
