So, we have an office full of expat English guys. The FIFA World Cup was never going to pass us by. NEVER.
And I suspect management felt we were at that point where we needed a bit of a celebration, so they instigated a challenge: each area on our floor was assigned a country and had to decorate their area for that country.
We are an office full of high-functioning IT people, many of us with a sliiiightly competitive streak.
Sliiiightly.
It started with the group secretary who decorated her desk and the one next to her. And then the whole office started getting into the act.

So, yeah, it kind of escalated.
I think it's safe to say that we're kind of competitive at heart. High-functioning, reasonably intelligent, multi-tasking personnel who are in a job where the goal is to complete the installation to a business standard.
On the plus side, at least the office isn't white and boring anymore!
There's a lunch/opening ceremony at 1pm, and we all had to bring food from our country. My co-worker brought paella (I haven't asked if he made it, or if his wife did), and I made...um...almond cake. Not very well, I might add. But, yeah, it's what I had just before midnight while waiting to watch the Hockey World Cup.
For the record, I think the Hockeyroos deserved to win (they had possession more often than not, and more shots on goal) but damn the Americans gave them a run for their money, especially in the second half!
And those one-on-ones at the end? As a goalie, let me tell you that it was stressful watching, but I'd prefer a one-on-one to a penalty shoot-out any day!
AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE!
