It's amazing how many people on social media will take your hands, stare earnestly into your eyes, and in anxious and concerned troll-tones say, "you do know it's not actually free, don't you?"
Why yes, yes, I do know that the 36% tax I pay goes (partly) towards healthcare costs in this country. I was brought up in capitalism just the same as you, and I can do the math.
If it makes such people feel better, I'd call it "not paying twice". But the truth is that it won't make them feel better; they're not about how many times it's paid for, or whether it's paid for, they're all about it's not being paid to me.
