Lunar New Year

Going to my mother's for some tsai (faat choi jai) this evening. There may be tzin dui. I'll post photos.

Frankly, that's about the extent of my cultural knowledge of Chinese New Year. Although that might change in the coming years b/c of aging and learning how to do these things as my mother (probably) starts forgetting.

Two zongzi recipes I'd like to try:

ZongZi Two Ways: both the savoury and the sweet

Grandmother's ZongZi: savoury, with pork belly

The staples of my grandmother's recipe was pork, lentils, and lup cheong, and she'd put a little extra pork fat in the package, so it would melt into the rice and make it delicious. Obviously not something you're going to have every day!

Ooh and I just found a recipe for nuomici! Although might have to take the custard filling from here.

Oh, and all the glutinous rice ball recipes!

Notes: A slow-burn fic (and I'd have loved to see the 100K version, but this is chocolate box, after all) about how timing makes such a difference in a relationship. Basically, Steve has issues, and he kind of has to work through them before he's okay to make a move.

Summary: Following Clark's funeral, Lois realizes she isn't ready to go back to Metropolis, not yet. While at the Kent Farm, she gets a visitor: Diana, the woman who had fought alongside Clark at the very end. She comes to offer her condolences, and Lois finds a friend whose own experience is not that different from her own.

Notes: A post-BvS piece that depicts a friendship between the two women, particularly in light of Diana's loss of Steve nearly 100 years previously. I, uh, I like how they end up in Paris at the end. :D
