For many years I did pretty much nothing on NYE.
Sat home, didn't even watch the harbour fireworks on TV, chatted to online friends in rooms, went to bed.
Then we moved to this neighbourhood and that first year the street had a little street party in the park down the end. So we went to meet the neighbours, which was nice.
The next year, there was the street party and a friend putting on a NYE party at her house.
Last year, there was the NYE party at her house (again).
And this year, B1 booked all of us (B1, B2, and myself) to go on a harbour cruise during the fireworks. So we're going into the city, going on the cruise (BYO picnic, no alcohol), and staying in a hotel overnight. (Over two nights actually, since they won't let you book just one.)
I haven't been in the city for NYE since I was sixteen, went to see the fireworks with some friends from church, and got stuck in the 'going home after the kiddie fireworks at 9pm' wave of people trying to catch the train home, only to barely make it in the door at 12 midnight. (Then we played Super Mario Kart by turns, threw several people in the pool, ate as much as hungry, social teenagers generally do and saw the sunrise in.)
So tonight will be interesting!
