title the day they came and took away the punctuation
author tielan
why lilyayl challenged me to do a double drabble after a conversation regarding the pit of voles and their increasing crackdown on all forms of special characters

its harder than you think exclamation mark exclamation mark

the day they came and took away the punctuation

rodney was quite upset

in all his years of experience with computers hed never seen the like

it was quite ridiculous really how was someone supposed to make themselves understood without the full range of punctuation

how could he be expected to properly harangue his fellow scientists when he had no exclamation marks no questions marks with which to question their sanity and demand answers

how could he possibly make snarky comments without the humble comma there to indicate where he was supposed to draw breath and where one rant ended and the next began

how was he supposed to stutter his way through an outraged response when someone questioned his benevolent wisdom and infinite understanding without ellipses and em dashes and en dashes

what was the world coming to and how would he cope

even when he opened his email in preparation to write a scathing letter of condemnation for this predicament he found himself at a loss his fingers automatically reaching for the comma the fullstop the exclamation mark exclamation mark exclamation mark

how could this get any worse rodney thought they were already bad enough
