I suspect that for MGM, the cost/profit ratios are better for movies with a known fanbase than for TV seasons.
Hence the push for SGA (with five seasons and therefore able to be shown in syndication) to movie-status. They tried it with SG1 and it was quite successful, now they're going to try it with SGA.
And, no, I don't put a lot of hope in TV execs. However, I don't think I'm quite qualified to say that I know what's best for the show.
Unless I'm really angry at what they've done and am ranting. Then all bets are off. :D
