I suspect that for MGM, the cost/profit ratios are better for movies with a known fanbase than for TV seasons.
You're probably right. I mean, DVD sales have been enough in the past to bring back a show, if only for a DVD or two. And SG1 seems to have done quite well with those (Stargate Continuum was awfully good), but my one complaint in that area is that you miss out on a lot of the fun stand-alone episodes that a TV show can provide (I'm thinking of Window of Opportunity as a prime example). The time constraints of a movie just don't allow for that kind of frivolity. Oh well, I guess that's what fanfic is for! :D
