If that's a feeling of "Sometimes I don't think people get where I'm coming from," it's a feeling I share. I'm not sure if it's age, background or whatever. Sometimes I feel like I'm writing for an audience of two, and even they don't really get me :).
As for the kid, I need unnecessarily to share this tale. We were at a technical conference (Dad & I both do similar work) and the kid, then about 18 months old, started intentionally skipping naps (as best we could tell) so there'd be the opportunity to use me for a bed. There we'd be in the hotel lobby at about 5pm (normal naptime was about 3pm) and I'd be playing with the kid while mom & dad were off at some talk, and there'd suddenly be about 5 minutes of unconsolable HOWLING followed by ZONK -- kid fast asleep. And then within 10 minutes I'd be asleep, too.
I'm not sure which amused the kid's parents more, repeatedly finding us both asleep in a chair in the lobby, or repeatedly overhearing comments about "how cute the mommy and her baby" were.
