I have worked out how to play .avis on my new TV!
So now I may 'watch' episodes while quilting. And this afternoon, I finished sewing all the blocks for my postage stamp quilt and watched 'Trail Of Blood', 'Animus', and 'Breach'.
Trail Of Blood
Yes, Nikola is growing on me. He's a lot more likeable when he's just annoying, snarky guy, not 'annoying and trying to take over the world in a dreadfully campy evil overlord manner'. I like Rodney McKay without the megalomania. And it was fun watching him reveal the layers of his Plan. And talking geek with Henry.
Some wonderful acting from Amanda here, where Helen discovers about the source blood, and averrs that no-one will ever use it to make monsters the way they did with Ashley. The fury is beautiful and the way the guys are all taken aback by her ferocity is awesome.
I'm a little peeved that Kate didn't take the stunner with her to the cop stakeout. Yes, she looks cool with guns, but, really, stunners are good and you don't have to leave them dead or bleeding!
Animus
It felt a little odd watching this so soon after Fragments, which was also Henry struggling with his nature. Although it's less struggling now and more accepting and dealing. I think the fact that I'd seen him struggle against the change when Colin Cunningham (I have no idea what his character's name was, he was Colin Cunningham!) cut him meant I wasn't really worried for Will.
So I suppose this is the What They Really Need Is A Honky episode of Sanctuary?
And, yes, the Nikola->Helen flirting is fun. I could write them flirting, but I'm not sure I can see Helen allowing more than flirting, though. Nikola pushes her boundaries, but he moves very quickly when she tells him to get off her bed and out of her room.
Breach
I...didn't enjoy this one so much. Adam Worth/Hyde felt too "Evil Is Camp!" for me to really enjoy it. The solution itself was good once Helen worked out how to deal with him, but the questioning/defiance cycle didn't hold me after the first round. I wanted to know more about what happened between Helen and Adam Worth and they didn't explain enough in this episode. (Maybe next?)
Maybe it'll get better in rewatch?
things what I'm curious about
I'm curious as to whether the 'not-a-priest' from Trail Of Blood turns up again. And what his part in the story arc is. They do seem to be going for the arcness this season - we have Will and Kali, we have Gregory Magnus' city (and apparently Adam Worth's part in it), and now we seem to have a mysterious and evil not-priest who killed a friend of the Sanctuary. (And just as I was rejoicing in a depiction of the church that isn't rigidity, depravity, or hypocrisy, too.)
While at one level, I understand that Agam Darshi was probably filming Hero II during Animus at least, it was annoying to discover how little Kate had to do in these eps. I had prior warning, which helped, but still...
