tielan: kate freelander looking troubled (Sanctuary - Kate)

So I've watched the end of Sanctuary Season 3, H5-0 Season 1, the end of Castle Season 2, the start of Lost Girl Season 1 (first episode) and the start of Rizzoli and Isles Season 2 (first episode).

I am ready to talk about any of them. However, be warned, what I have to say may not necessarily be to your liking. I can say that all the season enders were generally enjoyable for something to look at every now and then while finishing off the blocks for my Gothic Summer Sampler but nothing unduly spectacular.

Thanks to assorted writing friends, I've also seen the 1st half of Dr. Who S5, up to Flesh and Stone, and now I'm kinda curious to see Silence In The Library - although I know it's as terrifying as Blink, if not more - just so I can meet River Song the first time around (our chronology, not hers).

I might have another Dr Who day on the 24th if ppl are able to make it. Dr. Who is something that I simply cannot watch alone. CANNOT DO IT.

Albertus Magnus, thirteenth century occultist - mystic, alchemist, philosopher - who wrote a Book of Secrets about the magical properties of stones, herbs, and beasts...

One wonders about the degree of relationship with a certain Helen Magnus...

At the least it could be said that Gregory and Helen came by it honestly! :)

Okay, I'm not a fan of the Five, any more than I'm a fan of Rodney McKay. It's less to do with the characters themselves and more to do with the dominance of them in fandom. It's Daniel Jackson and the Denialites syndrome, although Denialites syndrome was turned up to 11.

But Normandy was an awesome episode.

I take it the next ep, Carentan, is the "70 years later" continuance? (Would that make 'Normandy' the backstory for 'Carentan'?)

Finally! An episode that didn't make me want to stab something!

in which it's all about the girls, with a dose of Nikola's stupendous ego )

So, final run for Sanctuary S3: Normandy, which I've heard is good; Carentan, which I think people thought was good; and the final two episodes, which most people seem to really like, but the spoilers I've read indicate I'm going to be 'meh' about: Helen&Will episodes don't hit my buttons at all.

That'll be Friday's viewing while quilting. Today is the Sydney Craft And Quilt Show fair.

So...was there any point to this episode other than for the writers to get a hard-on about Henry and Will?

no? I didn't think so. )

Someone wrote a remix of my story: Untold Things!

Unasked Things (The Questions We Don't Answer Remix)
Sanctuary: Helen, Kate, with some Henry, Will, and Big Guy.
I'm so glad that this is from Helen's POV, considering Kate and her probable history, the things she sees but doesn't ask about, knowing there's only so much she can do.

--

Forty Years And Eight Pounds:
Stargate Atlantis: John, Teyla, Ronon, Rodney, Lorne, angst, team, family.
An aching look at John and his need for contact.

Fade Away (It's Just A Kiss Away Remix)
Stargate Atlantis: John, Teyla, John/Teyla, post-Submersion
John and the Iratus, Teyla and the Wraith Queen - learning not to grieve what she is, striving to be a better man.

Dead End Detour (Wrong Turning Remix)
Angel: Faith, Angel, and the Watcher's Council, up to S5.
Haunting and terrible and so sad, and yet...there's still a terrible rightness about it.

--

And confession time: I wrote two Remixes (one was a pinch-hit) and two Remix Madness fics.

I'm curious: can you guess which ones they were?

I'll write a ficlet for the first person who guesses the Pinch Hit or the Remix Madness fics. (I'm not allowing my Remix Assignment, because my f-list would be able to find it easily based on the fact that I asked for beta for a very specific set of characters.)

So, I got a remix story and it is awesome! Let there be joy!

Making a Sanctuary a Home (Finding Home remix): a remix of my story of the same name, only from Kate's POV and with lots of wonderful interaction with Team Sanctuary!

I think I know who the writer was, too. And I generally suck at guessing authors.

A few recs while browsing this morning:

Court Etiquette
Justice League, Hippolyta, Flash, Alfred, Batman, Wonderwoman, Batman/Wonder Woman.
Funny and serious and a little angsty by turns, a great little piece for the humour and characterisation, with a nice little 'turning the tables' moment at the end.

Ripples In A Pond (The More Things Change Remix)
Stargate Atlantis, Teyla, John, Ronon, Rodney, team.
This is basically "d'awww!" fic. Squishy and team-y and adorable then and now.

Eight Takes on Cameron Mitchell, Air Force Officer in Exile
SG1, Cameron, John, Sam, Daniel, assorted original characters.
Set in the Continuum AU, assorted people's thoughts on Cam Mitchell and his developing relationship with John.

For Remix this year, I did one Assignment, one Pinch-hit, and one Madness. I have half of a second Madness...only to follow it to its logical conclusion is going to get messy.

Oh, waitaminnit! *lightbulb goes on*

Now the question: can I do it before the Madness deadline?

So, I finally watched the mid-season two-parter. Not bad.

quite enjoyable )

I came this close to downloading the first couple of eps of H50 this evening...because I need another show like I need a kick in the head...

It's sort of interesting working through Fringe and seeing how it's a more standard telling of the 'man walks into the Underworld' storyline - also Sanctuary's premise.

Fringe is more standard than Sanctuary, because the focus is the everyman character - Olivia - while Sanctuary is focused on the mentor-of-the-everyman - Helen. It's less standard than the usual telling of the 'man walks into the Underworld' storyline because the person walking into the Underworld of Fringe is actually a woman.

Anyway, this ramble was brought to you by a post on DW: [personal profile] newredshoes' explanation of why you should watch Fringe.

I agree with all of it and direct you there if you've ever considered watching Fringe and wondered why you should.

I've had this bouncing around my head for some time. It was going to be a post for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, but didn't get done before the end of the challenge.

In the manner of my Seven Moments Of Awesome for Teyla and Ziva, what follows is Seven Reasons I Adore Kate Freelander.

Kate Freelander: not a small-town girl )

I have worked out how to play .avis on my new TV!

So now I may 'watch' episodes while quilting. And this afternoon, I finished sewing all the blocks for my postage stamp quilt and watched 'Trail Of Blood', 'Animus', and 'Breach'.

So, Tesla's growing on me )

Let's see what we can do with this.

well, this should be interesting )

I'm a little worried that "Margaret Thatcher" is misspelled, though.

I think this is one of my favourite eps so far.

do I look small-town? )

This one goes on the rewatch list.

In which Kate has the Magical Healing Powerz Of DisContinuity, Helen bluffs twice, and Will is whumped...again.

oh, and some guy played by Michael Shanks turns up... )

Anyway, too much telling, not enough showing.

My big beef this month is people telling me what happens rather than showing me what happens. I'm tired of it. DO NOT WANT.

and a new wild goose chase is born? )

So, I'm going to go back and watch 'Penance' from S2 tomorrow for the Kate backstory. Possibly 3.03 The Bank Job if I have time.

I'm still deciding whether or not to watch Hero II or wait until later. :/

Intriguing.

so, um, what just happened? )

*sigh* Kate-centric fic will be forthcoming. At the least, there'll be some for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon. At the least.

I think I mis-named the previous Sanctuary review post - Eulogy was 2.03, wasn't it? )

--

In other news, I've just created [livejournal.com profile] sanctuary_news - a daily/weekly newsletter for Sanctuary which will hopefully be going live as of the 1st January, 2011.

I'm just sayin'...

And tomorrow I'm going shopping for DVD sets! (Once I find my Christmas money stash.)

Things To Buy:
- A:TLA series, book 1
- Blood Ties Season 1 (I watched the promo after reading the shorts in Blood Bank for a YT fic and being reminded of just how much I love the Henry-Vicki-Mike triangle in the novel.)

...and I just realised I don't even have to buy S2 Sanctuary because the stepfather has it! Woohoo!
