So I'm at 188 of 312 pages and there's so much I don't remember from the draft version. It's really fun reading and getting the feel for this all over again.
firstly, I forgot how many threads they started with. Atlantis is full of people, and they're all doing useful, functional stuff. they all have skills and things they bring to the table, and I love that.
I'd also forgotten that the invasion of Atlantis happens so early on, and the questioning that Rodney (or Quicksilver as I suppose we should call him) goes through when he meets Todd. Oh, and I loved that Rodney's ego remains firmly intact, even thinking of himself as someone else.
Jeannie and Jennifer dealing with Rodney's absence and each other... can anyone say awkward?
I'm rather sorry that the explicit mention of the former relationship between Radek and William had to be canned, but they still make an excellent team. and Atlantis has never really had someone with William's specialty.
I do remember the wonderful descriptions of Sateda, though - the way the main city came to life in the story. that's definitely not something I know anything of as an Australian: the skeleton of a city and the rebuilding. Ronon's memories of Sateda as it was are beautiful and poignant, and really give us a great look at his state and status before the Wraith destroyed Sateda. Definite character development there.
ps. LAIRS OH EM GEE. So bloody cute!
oh and Mel Hocken checking Teyla out. :D :D :D Cos everyone should!
