There's always the Guide To Writing For Me which puts everything into general terms.
This post is for the more specific letters:
Fandom: Avengers
Women: Peggy Carter, Jane Foster, Natasha Romanoff
Request: Any or all of these women playing a key role in a mission in their canon. I'd really like to see Jane Foster elaborated upon, since we didn't see as much of her in the movie as I would have liked, but I'd love to see a Peggy or Natasha centric action story.
Details:
So, I love Peggy for who and how she is in her time and place - a product of her upbringing and background. What brought her to the US in the first place, a liaison role that was never going to be easy, but which surely would be a hundred times more difficult for a woman? Was she a part of the team that got Dr. Erskine out from Germany? I know nothing of the comics, only the movie, so you can add elements or skip them as you wish.
Jane Foster intrigues me - we really only caught a glimpse of her in the movie, and I'd like to see some more. This one, probably more than the others, is not so much an action/adventure story, but a drama one. I don't know exactly what I'd like to read about her, just that I'd like to know more about a character we're not otherwise likely to get much of a look at. It would be interesting to see her working in the midst of all the superheroes, though.
I like the depiction of Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2: cool and competent and not at all put off by Tony's flirtatious in-your-faceness. In my head, she's kind of an action-girl version of Pepper. Work with that, if you like, or explore her background, or how she copes with her (mostly male) team-mates in the Avengers - their differing attitudes towards her and her capabilities.
Fandom: Sanctuary
Women: Kate Freelander
Request: Kate the thief, Kate the conman, Kate the one who does what needs doing. An action/adventure/drama story around her. I've only really seen to the start of S4 and haven't really paid attention after that, so I'd like something set during the time she's at Helen's Sanctuary.
Details:
Kate is pretty much the reason I started watching Sanctuary. The lack of her is more or less why I've stopped watching Sanctuary. I kept on wanting a story that centred around her background and how it interacted with her present, or that really let her have the problem and the solution - a problem that was hers and which she got to solve (the way Helen usually does in the show). And the writers never did it. If that's something you'd like to write, I'd love to read it. If not, then any story about the things that need doing which she does would be great.
Fandom: Disney Princesses
Women: Mulan, Tiana, Jasmine, Megara, Rapunzel
Request: Any or many of these gals dealing with the prejudice that comes from their personal situation in their cultural background, eg. Mulan being a disciplined female warrior in a culture that doesn't have 'warrior' as a feminine pursuit. In Rapunzel's case: dealing with having lived alone in a confined space all her life, and suddenly having to deal with a court full of courtiers and a city full of people.
Details:
Racism and Sexism aren't exactly addressed in Disney movies, and they're heavy topics to address, but if you can, I'd like to see them touched upon - the prejudices that these women encounter for their chosen behaviours which put them out of the 'usual domain' of women in their cultures.
Ultimately, Mulan is my absolute favourite - both her cleverness and her cluelessness combined with her determination to bring her family honour. But I love Megara's snarkiness and her so-sharp-she'll-cut-herself wit, Tiana's determination and temper, and Rapunzel and Jasmine are just great for their spunk.
I hope that I've been able to help you out a little more here: if you want, you can leave an anon comment to ask any more questions you might have and I'll answer it just as soon as I'm able.
