Dear People Writing For Me In A General Ficathon,
When filling out generic ficathon forms I always make at least one pairing-specific option, one character-specific option, and then list a number of common pairings and characters.
If you're here, reading this, you were most likely matched on the common pairings and characters, because my tastes run to:
1. female characters
2. action girls
3. reserved stoics who get the job done
If you're like 99% of fandom, you're gonna strike out on at least one of these. It's very difficult to find people who like the female characters over the male, prefer the action girls over the geek girls, and who'd rather have a character who indicates her feelings through subtle character cues instead of emoting all over the text.
It's even more difficult to find people who will write these characters.
And this is why I always put a "mainstream" request in my ficathon entry, after my "favourite female character" option and "favourite het pairing involving female character option.
I also know that, if you're like 99% of fandom, you're going to write the mainstream request.
This is okay. I like that mainstream request; there's nothing wrong with it.
However, if you can, if you are capable of it, if you have any kind of flexibility in what you're willing to write...I would really really really like the "favourite het pairing" or "favourite female character" option. I know that, the way things are, my favourite female character or favourite het pairing is probably That Thing You Hate Most In The Entire Canon Universe, but if it's not Something That Should Die Slowly And In Great Pain I would really, really love it if you'd write that pairing or that character.
Like I said, filling the mainstream request is okay. I like the generic options, too, or I wouldn't have suggested them. But there's always that moment of 'holy shit, this is perfect' when I receive something that I really can't get anywhere else.
Either way, I really really appreciate you writing for me! (No, really, I do. I'm hell on ficathons because I never quite want what everyone else wants, which makes me very difficult to match for most mods. So I really appreciate you making the effort to write for me.)
