Random snippet of...nothing in particular. Came out of the [livejournal.com profile] avengerkink meme where someone wanted "Steve to court somebody" with Maria and Natasha the named options. Bonus for Phil advising Maria (or Clint advising Natasha if that was the option gone with).

I'm not sure it's quite what I want for this story, but now I have "Phil Coulson, SHIELD agent, Superhero Nanny, and Matchmaker - Avengers a specialty" running through my head...

--

Nick Fury's first rule of recuperating SHIELD agents is to give them mission work to look over. Their current missions. Other agents' current missions. Old missions, long since completed and hashed over for future note. Current training of new SHIELD agents. Something. Anything.

Some medical personnel might think it unwise to give fragile minds undue preoccuption during physical recovery.

Nick Fury thinks it unwise to leave intelligent, dangerous, highly-trained minds nothing to do while their bodies recover.

Unfortunately, SHIELD has full hands right now. The Council is playing politics with Nick, which is nothing new, only now they're not even bothering to conceal their weapons. Sitwell is cleaning up in Europe, trying to root out the nests Loki created while setting up his mercenary army. Hill is trying to manage the New York civil authorities who are screaming about damage and reparations and responsibility for the destruction, while keeping an eye on Tony Stark who's planning something - Nick can feel it in his bad eye.

Which leaves Phil Coulson recovering in a helicarrier bed with a brand new Chief Medical Officer who doesn't understand that a recuperating SHIELD agent at Coulson's level with nothing to occupy him has all the potential to become a Level Eight crisis.

As it turns out, it becomes a Level Nine crisis, but after the fact, nobody's counting.

ps. I'm ridiculously stuck on [livejournal.com profile] pentapus's Treehouse Reversebang story... Throw me a plotbunny, an idea, something, anything??

Maria Hill, the line between honor and duty. (Like, she knew Fury doctored those cards, she called him on it in private, and went on with her job. No pearls-clutching there.)

In the grey light of morning, the idea still did not seem preposterous. This was troubling.

-------

The helicarrier has an underground tournament for playing oldschool video games.

-------

The helicarrier denizens band together to keep Fury out of the loop on something.

...(The something turns out to be an egg from someone's child's middle school egg-baby project. Steve paints the egg with a face and clothes. Tony designs something to keep the egg safe in. Natasha and Clint spar while tossing the egg between them with the agreement that breaking the egg is a mutual loss. Bruce is the one who proposed the egg-container to Tony in order to get the egg away from himself. Agents pass the egg back and forth. Someone started a twitter account for the egg. Etc. Goals are (a) keep the egg whole; and (b) keep Fury unaware.)

---

Fury goes missing, leaving Maria in control.

---

Mall!AU

---

Natasha receives fanmail, including at least one from a young girl who admires her as a hero.

---

Secret Marriage. Tony and Pepper actually got married even before Iron Man 1 for reasons. It was never serious then and they'd agreed it'd be open and kept secret. But after events of IM1, things start to change. (Including impact of IM2 in this context).

---

Temporary soulmates complete with manufactured feelings of love and either empathy or telepathy.

---

Natasha crept in like the fog on its little cat feet.
